| Is
college credit available?
Regretfully, no. Due to College of William and Mary requirements
it is not possible for us to provide college credit
for this event. Participants who attend the institute
for at least 25 hours will receive a certificate stating
that they have attended.
Is there on campus
housing? Does the registration fee include housing?
Participants are on their own for housing. We have made
arrangements with two local hotels to provide group
rates. Reservations for hotel accommodations may be
made by contacting the La Quinta Inn at 757-253-1663
($89/night; located several miles from campus, but a
hotel shuttle will be provided) or the Williamsburg
Hospitality House at 1-800-932-9192 ($119/night; within
walking distance of campus). Rooms are available on
a first-come, first-served basis, and must be reserved
by June 28 , 2008. Participants must mention the William
and Mary AP Institute to receive conference rates. To
locate other area hotels, contact the Williamsburg Hotel
and Motel Association at 1-800-999-4485 or visit www.williamsburghotel.com.
Are meals included
in the registration fee?
There will be a light continental breakfast provided
each morning. On Monday morning it will be in the University
Center where you come to register and where there will
be an opening session. For the rest of the week breakfast
will be set up in whichever building your class is in.
Light afternoon snacks will also be provided each day
in your building. You are on your own for lunch and
dinner. A list of area restaurants will be provided
with the materials you receive at registration. There
are a number of restaurants that are in walking distance
of the campus.
Where will my class
be?
You will check in at the University Center Monday morning.
A number of the classes will be held in that building.
The rest of the classes will be held in various academic
buildings on campus. Because undergraduate summer classes
(as well as other conferences) will still be in session
while you are here, institute classes typically are
in at least 6 different buildings. Classrooms will not be
assigned until July, and you will receive that information
in your final confirmation packet that we send out in
July.
What airport should
I fly into? How do I get to Williamsburg?
Travel information is available here.
|
I sent
in my registration form and I have not heard anything
back. Am I registered?
You should receive an initial confirmation letter with
an invoice/involvement record within two weeks of receipt
of your registration. If you have not received anything,
please call 757-221-2166 to confirm that your registration
form has been received. We receive calls each year in
July from individuals who have submitted paperwork through
their school system that never makes it here, or who
have mailed it in and we never receive it. If you don’t
here from us, call! Final confirmation packets, that
will include a map, parking pass, letter from your instructor,
etc, will be mailed after July 5th.
Is there still space? Your registration
deadline has not passed.
We are required to strictly limit the number
of registrants for the classes. As subjects become full
information will be posted on our web site.
What do I need to
bring?
If there are specific items you need to bring for your
subject, the letter from your instructor that you will
receive in July will tell you. Otherwise, bring something
to write with, something to write on, something to carry
all the books you will get, your school calendar, any
text book that you have questions about or would like
to share, any lessons or activities that you want to
share. Also, since you will be sitting all day (for the most part), you may want to bring a cushion to provide some padding to the chairs.
What is the dress
code?
Williamsburg in July/August is hot and humid. The
buildings will be hot or cold (we don’t control
the temperature!). Dress so that you will be comfortable
sitting for much of the day, often in those little chairs
with the arm desks, and walking outside in the heat. Dress
to be comfortable.
What else do I need
to know?
Please keep in mind that the College of William and
Mary is a residential campus. What does that mean for you? It
means that you may not be able to park near the building
that your class is in. You should be prepared to walk
to get to your building, to get to lunch, and between
the University Center, parking, and your building.
You will receive a lot (a lot!) of text books to take
back with you. Some subjects will receive more than
others, but typically everyone will receive at least
4 different titles. Keep this in mind when packing,
or be prepared to ship them back.
