About the Directory

This Internet Resource Directory was designed by Dr. Catherine Little to be a "handbook" of sorts for students in the graduate programs in Gifted Education at the College of William and Mary. The links included on the site are intended to help with coursework and projects, with broadening students' understanding of the field of gifted education, and with their overall William and Mary experience. Have a question about proper citation format? Visit the Resources for Writing, Referencing, and Conducting Research. Looking for some recommended readings in gifted education? Explore the Gifted Education Links. Wondering about graduation tickets? Check out the Important William and Mary Links. The overall purpose is to save students a little bit of searching time at different stages of their graduate program. The links included have been collected based on the directory developer's own experiences as both a student and a professor at W&M.

The directory has three major sections:

  • 1. Resources for Writing, Referencing, and Conducting Research: This section focuses on conducting research and writing papers. It includes (a) resources for looking up questions about grammar, usage, and other general writing issues; (b) links to information on the program's preferred style manual; and (c) some guidelines for thinking about conducting research. (A) and (b) will be important sites for your progress throughout the program; (c) will become especially relevant as you move toward your culminating project and consider doing a research study for your thesis.
  • 2. Gifted Education Links: This section includes a selection of sites relevant to professionals pursuing a career in gifted education. Professional organizations and research centers at the state and national level are listed here, along with selected resources that will be useful in the gifted education courses in the graduate program.
  • 3. Important Links at The College of William and Mary: This section highlights some of the important areas to visit within the College's web site. Information about the School of Education and the gifted education programs in particular are linked here, along with details about graduate living and College procedures that are most relevant to students in the graduate program.

Resources for Writing, Referencing, and Conducting Research

On this page, you will find resources to assist you in the process of preparing papers and thinking about research in education. The final section, related to Conducting research, will be helpful as an overview of educational research resources and will be especially helpful if you intend to conduct a research study for your culminating experience in the program, as well as suggesting ideas for you to consider as you move forward as an educational practitioner and leader.
