| Focusing
on the Future - A career and academic planning
experience for high-ability students, grades 6-12
and their parents
Focusing on the Future exposes high-ability learners
to career opportunities related to the arts, humanities,
mathematics, and sciences. The program also informs
parents of considerations and guidelines for effective
career and academic planning.
The 2008 Focusing on the Future experience included
large and small group sessions for students and
parents. Following an opening session, students
in grades 6-8 attended four workshop sessions,
each session offering 8 different topics. Parallel
sessions were held for students in grades 9-12
and for parents. A lunchtime panel discussion
with William & Mary students and an opportunity
for a campus tour at the end of the day rounded
out the program.
